When I was studying Chinese, my favourite thing to read was comic books. Comic books are easier - of course - because you don’t need to check so many words in a dictionary. If you don’t know a word, you can look at the pictures and guess what the characters are talking about.
But just because they’re easier to read, comic books are still a good way to practice English.
One of my favourite comic books is Batman. I don’t just love the characters and the stories, I also love the architecture. Maybe that’s why I love Parkview Square in Bugis. The building is modern, but it was inspired by art-deco architecture of the 1920s and 30s.
Inside, you will find one of Singapore’s best bars. Atlas is a cocktail bar. It is also a very good place for afternoon tea. More than that, it is also a great place to read a comic book - especially Batman - and practice your reading.
