Applying for a Dependent's Pass in Singapore: A Guide for Family Members

Are you planning to move to Singapore with your family? If so, you'll need to apply for a Dependent's Pass (DP) for your dependents, including your spouse and children. In this article, we will go over the criteria and requirements for obtaining a DP in Singapore, as well as the application process.

Criteria for a Dependent's Pass:

  • The main pass holder must hold a valid Employment Pass (EP), S Pass, or EntrePass.

  • The dependent must be a legally married spouse or a child under 21 years of age.

  • The dependent must be financially dependent on the main pass holder.

Requirements for a Dependent's Pass:

  • A completed application form, which can be found on the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) website: https://www.mom.gov.sg/passes-and-permits/work-permit-for-foreign-worker/dependent-pass-application-and-renewal

  • A passport-sized photograph of the dependent.

  • A copy of the dependent's passport and visa.

  • A copy of the main pass holder's valid EP, S Pass, or EntrePass.

  • A copy of the marriage certificate or birth certificate, as applicable.

  • A copy of the main pass holder's salary slips or employment contract.

The application process for a DP is relatively straightforward. First, the main pass holder must submit the application and required documents to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM). The processing time for a DP application is typically around 2-4 weeks.

Once the DP is approved, the dependent will need to pay a security deposit of SGD $5,000, which will be refunded when the DP is cancelled or expired. The DP is valid for the same period as the main pass holder's EP, S Pass, or EntrePass, and it can be renewed as long as the main pass holder's work permit is still valid.

It is worth noting that DP holders are not allowed to work in Singapore. Also, dependents who are over 21 years of age, unmarried, and not financially dependent on the main pass holder are not eligible for a DP and will require to apply for a Long-term Visit Pass.

Applying for a Dependent's Pass in Singapore is a necessary step for foreign workers who want to bring their families to the country. The criteria and requirements for a DP are relatively straightforward, and the application process can be completed online. Be sure to gather all of the necessary documents before applying, and be prepared for the security deposit and the processing time. With a little preparation, your family can join you in Singapore and enjoy all the country has to offer.
